For this project, rather than approach it with the typical elements that are usually thought about when people think about North Carolina; Red Cardinals, Blue Mountains, the busy Cities, the vast Forests, and the never-ending Coastlines; by digging into the history and other state elements, a more unique approach was designed to show that North Carolinians are more than what meets the eye. The elements that were used include the original thirteen colonies, the year that the first town that was established in the state, dogwood flowers, and the “Carolina Blue” that makes up the movement in his beard as well as the center of the flowers. In addition, with these elements the partial circle of symbols that represent some of the other categories of the SKILLS USA competitions to help create a focus around Blackbeard.
